ESRC First Grant Success

July 28, 2008

Dr Alex Singleton has successfully been awarded £95k as an ESRC First Grant titled “Spatial interaction modelling, geodemographics and widening participation in the Higher Education sector?” This grant will examine how spatial interaction models and geodemographic area classification can be integrated to provide tools which predict HE participation.

The First Grant Awards were particularly competitive (over 200 applications) and involved a more stringent set of evaluation criteria than those used in previous years. Alex works as part of the high profile Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (http://www.spatial-literacy.org) and it is hoped that this grant will form an important step towards making this institution wide initiative sustainable.
