What are the Groups?

The e-society project has developed a detailed Great Britain wide classification of neighbourhoods using data about our levels of awareness of different information communication technologies, how we use them, and how we think they might improve our quality of life. The classification is hierarchical, consisting of 8 Level 1 Groups and 23 Level 2 Types. The version of the classification that is available through this Website makes it possible to classify every Great Britain ‘unit postcode’ (e.g. SW1A 1AA). The Groups and Types are listed below: click on any of them to obtain a detailed description.
