Paul Longley (B.Sc., Ph.D., D.Sc., AcSS) has been Professor of Geographic Information Science at UCL since July 2000. He serves as UCL Site Director for the Splint Programme. He was previously Professor of Geography at the University of Bristol , and has also worked at the universities of Cardiff , Reading and Karlsruhe . His research interests are grouped around the use of geographical information systems (GIS) and quantitative methods in urban analysis. This includes: information integration within GIS (notably remote sensing - GIS integration); geodemographics; fractal geometry; local taxation; housing and retail market analysis; discrete choice modelling; and social survey research practice. He has held over 30 research grants, totalling c. £2m; supervised 30 Ph.D. students (19 funded by research councils); published ten books; and made over 100 contributions as refereed journal articles and book chapters. He is Editor-in-Chief of Computers, Environment and Urban Systems and reviews editor of Environment and Planning B.
